From a moment of compassion during a crisis - to a community transformed. This is the journey of Morichika Welfare Society.
The year 2020 brought unprecedented challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed millions into hardship. At that moment, a small group of socially conscious individuals from Siliguri came together with a shared conviction: something had to be done for the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Strengthened by the support of Bengali expatriates in the United States, Morichika Welfare Society was born.
The organization officially began its journey on 15 August 2020 - India's Independence Day. Its first initiative focused on providing food to homeless people near New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, while simultaneously running food support programs for children and elderly tea garden workers around Siliguri. These efforts gradually expanded to Ranhatta village in Uttar Dinajpur and Bongaon in North 24 Parganas.
As the pandemic eased, the organization shifted focus toward long-term development. The Learning Centre Model was established in Ranhatta and Nichebasa village, Gulma Tea Garden - where children receive education, nutritious meals, health awareness, and protection services.
In 2022, Morichika launched its Education Sponsorship Program for Underprivileged Children, bringing 105 students across West Bengal under its support. Over four years, nearly 98% of sponsored students have passed their examinations. Among them, one qualified for medical studies, several entered engineering programs, and others pursued Data Science and English Honours.
Today, Morichika Welfare Society has adopted Nichebasa village under its flagship initiative - 'Adopt a Village for Holistic Development' - with the goal of transforming it into a sustainable model of integrated community development.
From a vision of compassion to a movement for change, our journey reflects years of empowering children, women, and communities through education, healthcare, sports, and sustainable development.
